Environment

We recognise that our operations have an impact on the local, regional and global environment. We take our responsibilities to the environment seriously and are committed to continuous improvements to the way we operate. We believe that environmental laws, regulations and codes of practice represent the minimum that we should be doing.

Our Practices

We have already employed several measures to limit our impact, as follows:

All of our wood suppliers guarantee their products are from responsibly managed sustainable sources, ensuring that our products do not contribute to deforestation.

All wood is ordered in sizes appropriate to the work it is being used for. This enables us to produce as little wood waste as possible by minimising the amount of offcuts produced.

We have our own Environmental Management System in place for recycling cardboard, water and wood waste.

All wood waste that is produced is recycled into briquettes. These are used internally for heating systems in the work areas, and also sold on to others for use in home heating systems. We are part of the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) and they are a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) Woodfuel.

We only use water based paints, finishes and other chemicals, unless there is no viable alternative.

Future Aims

We are committed to developing our Environmental Policy to further reduce and prevent pollution by:

Improving staff awareness of waste management and waste minimisation.

Only using products that have been recycled or can be recycled.

Favouring suppliers who share our environmental values and lessen their environmental impact.

Identifying and implementing the use of more eco-friendly products that become available.

Developing further recycling schemes as are relevant to individual business activities.
